What do those letters mean when you are looking at the label on a lighting fixture or ceiling fan? Assuming that the labeling is not forged, they are symbols/logos indicating that the fixture has been tested and passed by one of those organizations to be safely installed in your home. What I have been finding is a disturbing tread that more and more of the light fixtures and ceiling fans being sold through third party sellers on Amazon are not labeled as being evaluated by any testing laboratories.

So what have my observations been?
- Light fixtures with woefully undersized wires
- Ceiling fans with improper grounding
- Hardware not adequate to support the fixture

Some of those deficiencies have been so great that I refused to install the fixture. My belief is that if I would not install something in my home, due to safety concerns, I would not install it in a client's home. My recommendation is this... when buying a light fixture or ceiling fan, not only look at the cosmetic details, but also look to see if the manufacturer had the fixture properly tested.
