Rust•B•Gone

Have you ever seen a product advertised and thought to yourself, “there’s no way that product works that well”? Probably just about everyday. I thought that about the rust removal product Evapo-rust from CRC, but needed to try something to clean-up a used car part.

My Jeep Cherokee is 27-years old and some parts are becoming harder to find. I haven’t had a functioning parking brake for probably two years, so I decided to try and find a replacement. Unfortunately, this is one of those parts that is becoming harder to find in new condition, so I bought a used one. As you can see from the photos it had varying stages of rust, but I wanted to refurbish it before I installed it in my Jeep. I had a few options at my disposal… paint it with a rust converter, sandblast it, or dip it in Evapo-rust. I decided on the latter of the options.

I couldn’t believe the results, after 8-hours all of the surface rust was gone. The areas with deeper rust did take a bit longer, but after 48-hours the rust was gone. From most angles, the part looked as if it was new. Once I removed the part from the rust removal bath, I strained the Evapo-rust and poured it back in the bottles for reuse. Eventually this batch of Evapo-rust will no longer work as effectively, but I would not hesitate to buy this product again.

Though I used to write reviews products for a cycling blog, I paid full retail for this product. I was just impressed enough with this product to write a post and thought that it could be useful information for others for around their homes with rusty items like gate hardware, yard art, garden tools, etc.
